We Hike Because…
We’re Human…
We Breathe…
We Love Nature and the Outdoors…
We Love the Challenge and the Escape…
Wow. There are tons of ways to finish that statement. Fact is, I need hiking like I need water to drink and air to breathe.
Hiking keeps me sane and keeps my stress level down. It’s a balance to the work week. Hiking keeps my body and senses in check.
My name’s Rob Calderwood and I’m your host at hiking-trails-and-gear.com. I’ve been hiking every chance I get since I was a teenager growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Welcome to my site!

If you’re an avid hiker like me, or even if you’re just starting out, or hike once in awhile, this site is a great place to find hiking resources and a growing hiking community.
Hiking is a unique sport in that it’s really open to just about anyone. When you think about it, it’s one of the most basic and primal activities. Toddlers and “golden agers” are all perfectly capable of hitting the trails.
Although there is a wide array of high quality
gear
for hiking, you technically don’t need anything to hike except what you were born with.
Many parks nowadays even have trails accessible to the vision-impaired and for folks in wheelchairs.
So, if you want to hike, there’s nothing stopping you!
Add Your Own Expertise to this Hiking ResourceI invite you to participate in this site and make it your own! My goal is to offer the best hiking resource on the internet and to keep it real by including tons of first-hand experience, including yours!
Please visit often, bookmark this site, take as much info as you want, and “pay it forward” by posting your own trail wisdom, advice, photos, and reviews.
Exploring hiking-trails-and-gear.com, you’ll find numerous invitations to post a hike, a trail, an adventure, a review… and more. Post away my fellow hiker!
All relevant and high quality posts will end up on the pages of this site (that’s right—no garbage) and add to this great hiking resource. Then comment on the other posts from the community.
Welcome. I hope to see you in the posts, and maybe even out on the trails!
